Parallel timelines
The Blight campaign timeline differs significantly from that experienced by the Lords of Rotan during the Rod of Time campaign. The two key differences are:
  • Hicluin – god of time in the Rod of Time campaign – has never existed in the Blight timeline
  • The Rod of Time (a powerful artefact) has never existed in the Blight timeline.
Events from the Lords' memories linked to the Rod of Time or Hicluin still happened in the Blight campaign timeline, but in a slightly different way to account for the fact that neither Hicluin, nor the Rod have ever existed. The Lords themselves seem to be able to remember both versions of the past, but their experiences (the Rod of Time timeline) seem more real to them than the apparent equivalent experiences in the Blight campaign's historical timeline. Euvgeni has written a book The Twin Histories of Outreach comparing the two versions of his memories of his lands. Damalanthas has also written a "fictional" book titled The Lords of Time, which details the Lords’ quest for the Rod and their experiences.

An interesting side effect of these differences is that the sword Mirthos Destriast was never removed from its correct timeline by the elf Flash. Consequently, much of the devastation wrought by Flash and "Blue Biter" (including the devastation of the Elven capital, the teleportation of the sea serpent and the relocation of library of Tillon to Rotan) never occurred in the Blight timeline.

Trivia
Additional encounters
Several unlisted, but "canon" encounters took place outside of normal game play during the Rod of Time campaign. They are listed below. The approximate date of the encounter can be estimated by comparing the game code (e.g. P38a took place between P38 and P39).
  • Artak and the glitterdust spell (P38a)
  • Euvgeni, Luthe and Algar battle each other in Rotan's arena (P43a)
  • Souriin and Damalanthas investigate the Goblin Caves near Rotan (P47a)
  • Artak vs. the "restaurateur" (P47b)
  • Euvgeni fights a bonesnapper in the arena (P48a)
  • Wilt, Algar and Luthe spot a hippogriff near Rotan (P51a)
  • Damalanthas uses the Rod to get to Rotan's wish ring (P89a)
  • One completely unlisted and impromptu game took place involving some high-level characters from the south-west forests (in the same direction as Outreach). The game took place in the same world as Rotan and is "quasi-official" in that it linked in with other events in the campaign world at the time. However, no detailed notes were kept, and the characters were never used again. The game probably took place between games The Dark Army (P62) and Princes & Paintings II: City Under Seige (P63).
  • Between games Conjunction II (P92) and The Hand of Brador (P93), some random encounters were played out using Flash, Souriin, Ammandor, Damalanthas, Tekuna and Joranth. These encounters were run only to test some new combat rules and had little to do with the campaign.
  • The Champion of Champions challenge took place on 18/5/1991. It was a fight to the death of player characters against each other and had nothing to do with the regular campaign. The characters were used as they were after game Greed (P54).

There have been 133 games spanning a period of 4784 days (1/8/1989 - 6/9/2002). The average time between games is therefore 36 days.

The five longest gaps between games were:

  • 367 days (a year and a day) between The Rescue of Artak of Triscoh (26) and One Day in Rotan (25)
  • 328 days (almost eleven months) between The Illithids (28) and Mindscape (27)
  • 298 days (almost ten months) between Mindscape (27) and The Rescue of Artak of Triscoh (26)
  • 240 days (just under eight months) between New York City (P104) and Circus (P103)
  • 196 days (about six and a half months) between Into the Light (22) and Paradise (21)
The five shortest gaps between games was:

  • 1 day between Rotan Again (P3) and Fragments of a Group (P4)

  • 2 days between Accidental Incidents (P14) and The End of a Friend (P15)
  • 2 days between The Wooden Mouse (P37) and A Debt (P38)
Extreme numbers of players
The maximum number of simultaneous players in one game session was:
  • 9 players during The Battle of Dragondale (P67); the players were André, Antony, Chris, Damian, Jonathan, Keith, Sebastian, Simon and Warren.
The minimum number was:
  • 1 player during both The Wooden Mouse (P37) and Guildy (P55); both games were solos for Jonathan.
Miscellaneous trivia
  • The Crypt of Istaris (P36), The Wooden Mouse (P37) and Terrible Trouble in Tora (P41) were all based on published modules. No other module based games have been run as part of campaigns in and around Rotan, but many have been sources of inspiration.
  • Although it occured later in time, Terrible Trouble in Tora (P42) was actually played before Dragondale (P41), because of player availability on the day.

  • Only two "official" games -- Imp Peril (P85) and Flash Goes for a Walk in the Forest (P99) -- have ever been run completely impromptu.
