Artak's Field Guide to Exotic Herbal Remedies
This thick book documents Artak's research and experimentation with herbs, poisons, brews and concoctions over the years. Artak keeps the book in Artak's Apothecary in Rotan. It is rumoured that one or two copies exist elsewhere, but this has not been confirmed by Artak.

Assorted Poems of Times Gone By
This book contains old poetry by assorted writers. Most of the poems are in Ivrean, but there are a few examples of elven, dwarven and even gnomish poems. This is only really valuable (about 1100 gp) to a collector.

Campaign lore: This book was one of the items plundered from the dragon Darkness’ hoard in 2694:4. Damalanthas keeps it on a shelf in his chambers at the Rotan Palace.

Books of Cha-im
These volumes contain all of Joranth’s research into the faith of Cha-im, gathered during the last couple of decades. Joranth bequeathed the tomes to the University following his death in 2705:3.

After the Vacuous Grimoire went missing in 2705:9, a thorough check of the University library was performed. During this check one of the librarians noticed that where there were previously ten volumes of the Books of Cha-im, there were now 11. However, the volumes present were numbered 1-10 and 12. Book 12 has only a few used pages, and appears to have been written a couple of months before Joranth's death, but after his initial visit to Je-Lorak. The set of eleven volumes is too large to move easily.

Hespar's Manual of Stealthy Pilfering
Written by the legendary rogue Hespar, this is a guide to expertise at thievery. Legend says that once it has been read, the book will vanish.

Powers: This book is so effective that any rogue who reads it and then spends one month practising the skills therein will gain enough experience points to move to the midpoint of the next higher level.

Campaign lore: Tekuna obtained the Manual during her travels in the first quarter of 2694. She keeps the manual exceptionally well hidden in her flat in Rotan.

Lizardfolk scriptures
On 2705:3:18, while the rest of the Lords were meeting with the lizardmen in Waterloaf, an invisible Tekuna stole three sheets of treated papyrus from lizardman Sslisua’s room. The sheets are covered in painted stylistic text, which Scribe Tunwhistle deciphered as follows:

Testimony of ZzerisS, the Highdreamer

III
time of the third cycle,
children of the child-goddess,
enticement with the giver’s spoon
reward to she that find’s them

III I
follow the path of least attack
once to the fierce ones
once to the little ones
one to the once-was

III II
god of war, god of give
in the once-was
hunted by the gone ones
with the child god’s children
they your lifepath wind

Lords of Time
In 2695:5, Damalanthas began to pen a 'fictional' book titled The Lords of Time detailing the adventures of the Lords of Rotan as they searched for an item called the Rod of Time. After Damus finished the book in 2703:12, two copies of the volume were made. One of these copies was sent to the Great Library of Lemonaris and the other was donated to the Rotan Museum. Damalanthas keeps the original version in his chambers at the Rotan Palace.

Malik's Cookbook
The original version of this tome (with a pressed-leaf cover and a strong aromatic herbal smell) was destroyed by fire only days after Artak found it. Several years later, a second copy came into the herbalist’s possession. This copy is as heavy as the first (weighing in at 25 pounds), but has a plain blue cover. The tome is packed with information on all kinds of herbs and spices.

Powers: This reference grants a +6 bonus to the Alchemy skill of anyone using it. Unfortunately, because it is several centuries old, some information is a little antiquated. Whenever this book is used as a source of information, a d20 must be rolled. If a 1 is rolled, then the information in the book is useless or incorrect and no bonus is gained.

Campaign lore: The original version of the Cookbook was recovered from the beholder Voktarn's horde in 2694:9. Artak keeps the Cookbook in his laboratory at Dragondale.

Manual of Gainful Exercise
This heavy book contains advice and secrets on increasing bodily strength. Entwined within the words is a powerful magical effect. The book will take a few days to read -- about 48 hours of reading time over a minimum of six days.

Powers: Once the book is read, the enchantment will bestow a permanent +1 to the reader's Strength, and the book with become non-magical.

Campaign lore: The Manual was part of the beholder Voktarn's horde, recovered in 2694:9. Flash has been planning to use this for some time, but still hasn't plucked up the concentration to read for such a long time.

Nocturne Logica
This thick tome is a composite of Souriin Draco's notes for Project Deathwatch. The raven mage views necromancy as a new field of study and Nocturne Logica is filled with theories, notes and spellcraft. Paper is user for Souriin's general notes and vellum for the spells. The book allso contains a diary of the mages discoveries during the course of the Project.
Twin Histories of Outreach

In 2696:4, Euvgeni began work on a book titled the Twin Histories of Outreach. Most of the book details the history of the nation of Outreach since its establishment by Yarek Elovich in approximately 2070. The second (twin) section details a slightly different version of history – this one is written according to Euvgeni’s memory and includes the epic search for the Rod of Time and its effect on Outreach.

Campaign lore: When Euvgeni finished the volume in 2702:6, he travelled to Miris to present it to the elven people. He was given a Cloak of Elvenkind in return for his gift. Two copies of this book are known to exist, one in Miris and a copy in Euvgeni's personal collection in Outreach.

Vacuous Grimoire
Plundered from the body of the priestess of Liliyos in the third quarter of 2694, this book was originally a thin, softbound volume, titled Rites of Liliyos. This title was a ruse however – the book actually saps mental energy from anyone trying to read it. Damalanthas discovered this by accident when he found the book on 2694:9:18. Its appearance seemed to change to match nearby books. Later research revealed that the Grimoire’s appearance alters to conform to the same shape as other books in its vicinity (spellbooks for example).

Powers: The Grimoire drains one point of intelligence and two points of wisdom should anyone try to read it. The reader is entitled to a Will save (DC 20) to resist this effect.

Campaign lore: The grimoire was very carefully stored at the University of Craft and Thought, where it sat next to (and resembled) a tome titled Humourous Party Gags. Despite several precautions, the book has recently gone missing (it was first noted as being missing on 2705:9:12). A warning has been issued to all University staff.
