Harmony grew up in a small village about a day's walk from Waterloaf City. Her childhood was happy, but Harmony was quite a wild child and frequently went wandering on her own. Her parents often had to initiate searches for the youngster. As a child, Harmony was noted for being unselfish, generous and giving. However, the young halfling also had a more practical and even ruthless side to her nature. Once, when she and some friends found a small bird that had been mangled by a fox, it was obvious to all that the creature was beyond all help, but Harmony was the only one able to wring its neck and put it out of its misery. During her teen years, Harmony's parents dispaired of her either marrying or gaining a steady profession. In order to bring some stability to her life, her father Tollan the Lute tried to apprentice her into his business of instrument-making. Initially this proved unsuccesful; instead of taking to the craft, Harmony rebelled against this imposition on her time. But as the months went by, Harmony discovered her musical talents and her skill with the lute soon exceeded everyone else in the village. Harmony built on this skill and began to give performances in nearby towns and villages, and even one or two in Waterloaf itself. During one of these visits, she came across an old dizter -- a halfling instrument from days long passed -- which her father had made in his youth. Harmony bought the instrument and began to learn to play it. During one particularly passionate peformance, the instrument broke beyond Harmony's ability to repair it. Harmony returned to her home village and with her father's help, restored the dizter. During this time she bonded with her parents, and they in turn accepted her wandering nature. Shortly after this event, Harmony decide to explore beyond the halfling lands. Bidding her parents farewell, she began her journey to see the world. Her parents, although now quite old, are both still alive and well. Word occasionally reaches them of Harmony's exploits and adventures. Not so long ago, Harmony was spotted by one of the University's talent scouts and sent to the UCT for additional testing. These tests were inconclusive, so Harmony moved on to nearby Griffon Keep, where she met the Manticorum Burr Lockfoot and signed the Adventurers' code. While at Griffon Keep, she also met the gnome Sharath, who introduced her to the secret halfling network know as the Eyes of Joranth. Harmony was invited to read some of Joranth's diaries and found that Joranth's views appealed to her own sense of justice. Although not involved in the day-to-day running of the organisation, Harmony does work as an agent for the Eyes. (Co-incidentally, she has also met Reandra Bumblefoot. Reandra came into a southern tavern during one of Harmony's performances.) Less than a month ago, Harmony made contact with Roschilda, whom she had known briefly in her childhood. She asked to become a roving member of the Halfling Produce Consortium, and since then has been travelling between cities to check up on the HPC's food storage plans. |
