The Ivrean Council

11:4
It is one day after the worst chaos for many years in the City of Rotan. (Rotan News: Special Edition)

The King, reacting to the disaster, issues a ban on gnomish research in Rotan; the Gnomish Inventors' Guild announces that it intends to co-operate fully with the temporary ban. Palace investigations recover several large crystal fragments from the remains of the Gnomish Laboratories.

In response to Flash's warning, Rotan City is placed on high alert. Citizens are ordered to make sure that they have at least three weeks worth of food and water stock-piled and the Rotan City guard begins special defense patrols.

The Lords of Rotan split up, to take care of individual plans. They agree to meet at New Ivrea in eight days time. A sense of waiting sets in. The City waits for the trolls.

11:5
A baby elephant is born in Outreach, to the great delight of both the citizens and the government. The city's elephant troops were recently moved into a new, much larger enclosure.

In Rotan, a memorial service is held for those lost to the beholder two days earlier. Damalanthas attends and vows to add to the list of beholders he has killed or defeated.

Public rumours start circulating in both Rotan and Nedgari that troops from both cities are fighting an underground war against the dark elves. Word also spreads that the mines may be threatened and the market price of metal goods skyrockets -- all equipment using metal trebles in price.

Sepyt arrives at Damalanthas' chambers in the Rotan Palace with a message. He is in time to witness the abduction of Damalanthas Quithas.

During birthday celebrations for his mother -- Erona Thane -- Souriin Draco receives an unusual visitor.

11:6
A group of Sunfolk arrive at New Ivrea with several chests filled with gold coins (250 000 gp). There is a message accompanying the treasure: "A donation from Sunhaven to the Ivrean Council in support of your efforts. In return, we ask only that you leave us alone."

Tekuna gets news of a large shipment of short swords leaving Nedgari.

The Waterloaf museum is closed "indefinitely". The contents of the museum have been carefully catalogued and moved to a secret location.

11:7
The University of Craft and Thought begins conducting emergency drills in preparation for the trolls.

Nevril Leach discovers evidence that the elves transporting the beholders were acting under orders from the Royal Palace in Miris. They were part of some sort of "interbreeding program".

The Waterloaf Council hires a band of adventurers to survey the caves beneath Waterloaf. During their expedition, they are attacked by a pack of large spider-like creatures.

The first snow falls in Simipia and Feroll. It is the first time in human memory that snow has fallen this early in the year.

11:8
Frederick Joord, a fairly well-known business man from Tillon is appointed Mayor of New Ivrea by the Lower Council. Tekuna's subsequent investigations reveal Mayor Joord to be a good choice. He is reliable, well-liked and honest, good at building consensus, but firm when necessary. Perhaps the only interesting thing she discovers is that Frederick was born on the Bird Islands.

Urak, a master dwarven weapon-smith resident in Nedgari, finishes repairing Damalanthas' Manticorum blade.

In Simipia, there is brief grain price war between the Halfling Produce Consortium and an independent Simipian trader. Surprising most market observers, the halfings win and the trader goes broke.

11:9
Damalanthas is discovered wandering around the Rotan Palace in a daze several days after his abduction. The bard has no recollection of anything after the events leading up to his disappearance. He doesn't remember leaving his chambers, and he doesn't know how he got back to the palace.

Despite his disorientation, Damus wastes no time. He travels to Ivrea almost immediately, to make a public appearance and to boost moral. His visit includes a walk down Gods' Lane to make a prayer to all the gods for the safety of the lands. The bard makes sure that this ceremony is well-announced and well-attended. That evening, the bard contacts Souriin in a dream.

A group of volunteers (mainly halflings and dwarves) begins fortifying the Rotan walls -- King Anwell's men have been spread a little thin preparing for the war, and some of the city's defenses needed maintainence.

Souriin and Euvgeni begin exchanging letters.

11:10
In the middle of the night, Tekuna's dreams are interrupted by news of a violent and well-armed raid on Artak's Apothecary. The raid leaves one guard dead and another seriously injured. Tekuna and King Anwell's agents discover some interesting facts about the raid:

  • The attack was a frontal assault, by 10-12 cloaked figures using cross-bows, most likely of elven manufacture. After the robbery, the group split into two groups; one was seen heading for the poorly guarded south gate.
  • The missing goods include a copy of Artak's Field Guide, cardac root, some ground calotopis, various ghurika samples and a vial of olymis. There may also be some other items missing.
Damalanthas returns to Rotan, and visits the Temple of Rotan and Wellinghove for some personal prayers. He also spends some time discussing current affairs with Sepyt Niam and Lurik Mien.

Nirvon Drever, Chairman of the Pirsian Traders' Fold and one of eight Governors of Pirs is declared "persona non-grata" by the Elven Kingdom of Miris. This is for his role in the exportation of nurim leaves into Miris.

On Deathwatch Isle, combat training intensifies. Members of the project practice advanced summoning rites and manage to successfully summon and control a large shadow creature for an hour during a trial run. Shortly after this success, Souriin Draco gives the Project instructions to build up caches of undead and leaves the Isle.

11:11
The University of Craft and Thought begins constructing Sanctuary Hall, a refuge for those displaced by war.

In Waterloaf, the Crusaders begin public training in the use of the short sword. Residents of Waterloaf are encouraged to buy swords.

Damalanthas arrives early for a meeting with Souriin in the library at the University of Craft and Thought. After his meeting he speaks to each of the Manticorum, before re-activating the Blades. The central purpose to which the Manticorum are sworn to is:

"to unify the realm, defend its people and work for the good of the lands in which we dwell"
11:12
Several of the Lords of Rotan -- Souriin Draco, Damalanthas Quithas, Euvgeni Maryamitrevnavich, Tekuna Chand -- gather at New Ivrea to discuss preparations for the trollish invasion. After some heated discussions, the Lords agree to continue current stockpiling, military preparations and general readiness. They will each gather as much information as they can and meet again in ten days time. They are joined at the meeting by King Anwell, Chancellor Belimirar Wozacon-Ley and Harmony Sweetsong, who seems to represent a selection of halfling interests.

Interlude

Damalanthas floats. Unfeeling. Unsensing. He is many. There is a gentle touch on his mind. And then a whisper: "we are here - you are not alone". Then he is alone again. He is one. He is many. Floating...
