The God
Dasmar is usually depicted as a
youthful male, almost always carrying several musical instruments. Historically,
Dasmar is the god of music and dance, but he has also recently (at least
in godly terms) taken on the portfolio of travellers. Because many half-elves
are notorious wanderers and travellers, Dasmar has also gradually become
associated with this race. The patronage of the famous half-elven bard
Damalanthas Quithas has also increased Dasmar’s support amongst half-elves.
Dasmar has a special link to the
fey. He has been known to aid them when they are in dire need, and the
musical god also occasionally uses fey creatures to deliver messages to
his followers. Dasmar holds the honourary title of the Fey Prince.
The Faith
Although the followers of Dasmar
do not have any visible church, there is a secret, loosely structured organisation
known as the Voice of Dasmar, which is dedicated to furthering the goals
of the Prince of Song. The Voice always operates in very subtle ways, and
seems to value its secret nature more than any credit for achieving its
objectives.
Members of the Voice do not have
to be priests of Dasmar – many are bards, musicians, travellers and (more
recently) half-elves of all kinds. Low-level priests of Dasmar are fairly
common in Ivrea and in some neighbouring nations, but there seem to be
very few higher-level priests. This may have something to do with the secretive
nature of the Voice of Dasmar; as his priests grow in power, they are encouraged
to withdraw from the public eye.
The Clergy
Priests of Dasmar and other members
of the Voice are usually enigmatic characters. They must constantly balance
the showmanship required of musicians and performers with the secrecy and
subtle methods required by the Voice. Low level priests are frequently
travelling performers, and use their magic gifts to enhance their performances.
In contrast, higher level priests seldom use their granted powers openly,
although they will still sometimes weave them subtly into performances.
All priests of Dasmar must be proficient
in a musical instrument and must strive to practice this skill regularly.

Centres
of Worship
Dasmar has no known churches or
temples and few shrines, since it isn’t in his worshippers’ natures to
remain in one place for very long. One of the few permanent shrines to
Dasmar is the drinking fountain known as Wellinghovein
the centre of Rotan City. This shrine was established by the bard Damalanthas
Quithas early in 2694. The water in the fountain is rumoured to have magical
properties.
Although there are few shrines to
Dasmar, many Ivrean Inns have a jar marked “Dasmar’s Song”. Donations into
the jar are customarily given to travelling performers.
The Players
-
Damalanthas
Quithas: The famed bard and Lord of Rotan is known to be a patron of Dasmar.
It is not known if he also has ties to the Voice of Dasmar.
-
Ruella
es Tiriana: A famous elven singer. Although it meets with disapproval in
many elven circles, Ruella begins every performance with a beautiful song
of praise to the Faerie Prince. She claims that her voice was a gift from
the god himself, and that prior to this gift she was unable to sing at
all.
-
The Minstrels:
This well-known Simipian performing group incorporates tales of Dasmar’s
deeds and goals into an elaborate theatre production. The current group
consists of Thurik Longarm (a human acrobat), Dwayne Ironheart (a dwarven
drummer), Henri the Feet (a half-elven dancer), Penny Disp (a human bard)
and Illyana Genn (also a human bard). It is known that the Minstrels are
able to pass on messages to the Voice of Dasmar.
