Level: Clr 2
Components: V, S, M
Casting Time: 1 round
Range: Touch
Target: Caster's shield
Duration: 1 round + 1 round/level (see text)
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: Yes

When this spell is cast upon a shield, it remains dormant until the caster next enters in melee combat. It can remain dormant for one round plus one round per level of the caster, before it loses its potency. Once combat is begun, the spell lasts for the remainder of the battle, up to a maximum of half an hour.

A random effect occurs on each round of combat. Roll 1d6 to determine the effect. The shield attacks using the caster's melee (effects 1-3) or ranged (effect 4) attack bonus.

  1. A wolf head leaps from shield and bites nearest opponent for 1d6+1 damage.
  2. A large fist appears on the shield and punches once, for 1d3 damage.
  3. An arm wielding a longsword appears and slashes at an enemy for 1d8 damage.
  4. An arrows is fired from the shield at a random enemy, for 1d6 damage.
  5. A jet of magical fire shoots out from the shield, causing 1d10 of fire damage to one opponent (Reflex save for half, DC 12).
  6. Nothing occurs.
Note that while the spell is in effect, the shield-bearer may not use his shield to bash opponents. Doing so cancels the spell.

The material component of this spell is a strand of wolf's hair.
