From Whence This Comes
(Anon)
[Note: this chant is popular amongst the halflings, the author is not known although some say the chant comes from the writings of Joranth Bumblefoot.]
From whence this comes, is a mad god’s dream

From his slumbers, does his mind reach forth
And when filtered through the mortal mind
But part of a fraction may be seen
From my mind, this have I cast
To upon this paper with ink to bind

From the time immemorial
Has the endless cycle played
Peace begets war, war begets peace
Each rising like phoenix from the others ashes
Hear me well and head my words
For this cycle is no more.

In the past, far from our time
That which should come, never arrived
And so was the cycle thwarted
The dreams began in mindless fury
As that which would be free was bound
And that to be banished remained

To heal the rift, must one suffer
To restore the balance, the cycle returned.
Be warned however, what shall befall
Those who thwart the will of a god
Many shall stand and many shall fall
Many will join the rivers of blood.

Here must we start to heal the rift,
Peace begets war, war begets peace
But neither exists in a vacuum
Be warned my friends of excesses dire
To much, to quick, to fast
These are the things to be fall-stalled

Hear my call and hear my plea
The balance may yet return
To cure the dream, to restore the mind
Must the mind and soul be sated
But neither must the gorging start
From when the balance will not return
