Deep in the Night
(by Joranth Bumblefoot)

Deep in the night, the war drums start
The children cry and mothers wail,
the men they sigh and leaders stutter.
Death is nigh, and all can hope
that she comes with swift and sure hand.

But the night is yet young, and killing not begun
That march has started, but not yet arrived
The clash of steel, the tears of blood
This has yet to rend the night air
With the screams of death, pain and loss

With a scream, that shatters the mind
The charge begins and the body heaves
The world fades to red, as all is lost
The mind must struggle, the body suffer
To avoid that final call

Soon they come, large and small
From whence no one knows
Peace will shatter and life is lost
But that is the price to pay
Things are never quite as they seem
Things are never quite still
Many a time, when looking blindly
Is better then being blind

Things will happen as they will
Time will pass us by
There we stand united together
Yet standing together would we fall
The battles that are fought
Are of one god’s mad dream
A dream that has lost its path
And a balance gone awry.

When peace is shattered, war does follow
But when war tires, peace overcomes
And so that endless cycle returns
War begets Peace and peace begets war
So is the endless cycle
A dance, a marriage, a lover, a foe
What should these ever behold
Upon a sunless day

The church bells ring, their warnings loud
From slumber are the mounted ones roused
Round the back, through the woods
All has been planned afore
And many a life from those hands taken
These things will come to pass my friend
Playing a parody, a mockery of your life
All that talk and endless chatter achieved nought
You will die as will you, and you will die within
Be hard and firm, inner life resolved
Be true to yourself and face all odds
As insurmountable as they seem
‘cause peace is birthing and with all life it begins with pain
And this pain is called war.
