Ambassador Euvgeni's Second Reply

This is one of a series of letters sent between Souriin Draco and Euvgeni Maryamitrevnavich shortly after 2705:11:4.

There is a difference between wizards and necromancer's Souriin. There is no bitter draught at all. I am lamenting the fact that my people are not adept at the magical arts. I do not condone the dabbling into the arts of death whatever the circumstances.

Your request for attaching a death watch unit to the expedition to the Giantdowns is not a great idea, I do not want to jeopardise any tentative relations that I have with the giants... feel free to go there on your own steam. If you can disguise your people and perform what ever tasks required without detection I would would consider it a favour owed to me from you. If that is agreeable.

I am surprised that you think I fear the dark arts. I am in awe of the power they represent. Fear is a healthy barometer for the level of danger involved in any endeavour. I am not governed by my fear of the dark arts merely expediency.  I cannot afford to be associated with a necromancer while in such a high profile position, especially when that person was once viewed a man who sponsored the wise and sure solutions without resorting to desperate tactics.

I will warn you that your actions will make you a pariah in the eyes of all the nations you profess to protect with your actions. I agree with you that we are in a desperate situation. I should have said something when I discovered your plans, but assumed you had at least discussed it with others in power. Clearly this is a one man crusade...

I do not need to understand your dabbling, I see its results already, you have isolated yourself from those you claim to protect. Judgement is my prerogative as no-one else will judge you better than your friends...

Take your case to the Council yourself, I will support any decision they make, however I will vote against your proposal. Not because I disagree with your ideas but for political expediency, I want the Council to think very hard about what they are agreeing to. Desecration of graves is a serious matter for those who are religious. The dead have had their lives. This war should be fought by the living.

All knowledge is acquired in bits and pieces fragments that have to be woven into a coherent tapestry of links and associations. This tapestry of dark powers is still a bunch of threads that you have grasped. So everything you think you know and understand is either a half - truth or half - knowledge. This dark Knowledge must have a terrible price to pay. I hope you are prepared to pay it. I certainly am not.

The university of magic in Outreach was merely in response to all the other nations acquiring a magical asset. It called escalation. One can't let one's neighbours have an edge so to speak. I however find it difficult to condone a university independent of the rules and laws of the land around it. It just makes no sense to make exceptions to people who happen to be capable in magical skill. I do not make Outreach policy any more so will have to go with whatever the Outreach council directs me to do.
