The Raven Mage

Perhaps there was some greater prophecy at work when you were named such, for the bird of death seems to be dogging your path. Indeed the paths of prophecy and futures glimpsed seem to be guiding our lives. Souriin, although you have embarked on this task with a set mind, should you follow through with this deed, your reputation and the great things you have achieved will lie in ruins. Although I will do my best to ensure that the Universities especially remain free of this dark stain, I fear that you will not shake its hold so easily.

To call on necromancy for aid is to contest the will of the gods, for it is they that control the realms of the dead. Your logic cannot be faulted, but only dark forces grant these powers, and they all have a price. Nesgasp’s brother is a testament to that. Necromancy leaves its mark on all those who practice the art, history tells of the warping power of this dark magic. Call me the romantic fool swayed by old stories and half-truths, but I fear that this will alter your destiny forever. Should you not heed my warnings (and I know that you won’t), I have designed a contingency plan to try and salvage some of your reputation. It is well known that I have been scouring the lands for lost artefacts. I will claim to have found a cursed item of great power, the skull of a lich or some such bunk (I will make it sound grand), and given it over to you for study. I will then begin to lay subtle rumours of your changing behaviour. I am sure you can figure out the rest.

Well do you know that I do not hold faith in any particular deity or power, beyond what is useful and at hand. I also believe that we are mostly alone in this. However, I urge you again not to embark on this path. The curse that lingers over the Dracos may prove stronger than the man.
