City of Rotan signet rings
Nine of these rings were minted and presented to the heroes of the Battle of Dragondale at a ceremony on New Year’s day 2694. Those receiving rings were Allanon, Tekuna, Souriin, Euvgeni, Artak, Joranth, Flash, Damalanthas and Irith. The ring has on it an complicated design including the original Flaming Sword emblem of Rotan; an evergreen twig to indicated the blessing of Egreera upon the Lords of Rotan and a small crown which shows King Anwell's recognition of the Lords' status.

Campaign lore: Souriin's ring was destroyed by fire towards the end of 2694. Joranth’s ring was left on his body after his death as a token of respect. Since his resignation as a Lord of Rotan, Damalanthas no longer wears his ring.

City of Rotan signet rings (second mint)
A further dozen signet rings were minted at the end of 2699. One of these was given to Souriin to replace his lost ring and one was given to Sepyt Niam. Since then King Anwell has given rings to many other notable citizens of Rotan: Annaline Lemantiar, Fengar the Grey, Freca Narall, Rue Niam, Mother Nari, Sir James Fortell, Tam the Archer, Percival Ellwold and Bolyani Thombarl. The final ring is presumed to still be in the King's possession.

Although similar in design to the original signet rings, the second mint also includes a nugget of gold, indicating the relationship Rotan has with the nearby dwarven communities and the gold mines of Mount Naiva.

Campaign lore: Souriin does not usually wear his signet ring in order to maintain a public perception of his neutrality in the affairs of the lands.

Euvgeni's signet ring
This is a fairly plain ring, which Euvgeni has had since he was a child. The ring has only sentimental value.
Flurin's Ring of Regeneration

This is a small silver ring set with a blue stone.

Powers: This ring allows the wearer to heal 1 point of damage per level every hour rather than every day. Subdual damage heals at a rate of 1 point of damage per level every 5 minutes. If the wearer loses a limb, an organ, or any other body part while wearing this ring, the ring regenerates it like the spell.

The ring will (eventually) bring its wearer back from the dead, but a Fortitude save (DC 15) must be made to survive the trauma. If death is caused by poison, and the poison has not been neutralised, the wearer has to save against it once again and may die a second time. Only total destruction of all living tissue by fire and acid or similar means will prevent regeneration. The ring must be worn during the recovery process, and its removal stops the regeneration process permanently.

When asked by a curious University student if a new Damalanthas would grow from a chopped off finger wearing the ring, the wizard Souriin Draco was heard to suggest that the student borrow the ring from the bard to try it out on herself.

Campaign lore: Tekuna first noticed Flurin wearing this ring on 2693:10:15, and Flurin was seen to wear it constantly since then. Damalanthas took the ring off of Flurin's body on 2694:2:24, thus dooming the head thief to a permanent death.

Ring of Aargh
This ring is a very plain ordinary wooden ring.

Powers: This is a reverse-gravity ring, activated by the command word TEMMULPNU. It creates an area of 30-feet by 30-feet on the ground below the wearer, above which gravity is reversed. The effect is this area is identical to that of the reverse gravity spell, in other words, pretty drastic (there are already 8 gnomes and a chicken in low orbit around the planet). The field lasts 1d4 rounds.

Campaign lore: Nesgasp gave this ring to Souriin after the second game of Runestones in 2694:5, accompanied by a note:

Feeling down? This is the perfect pick-me-up. TEMMULPNU.
Later, realising that he was already using two rings, Souriin gave the ring to Tekuna in return for an unspecified future favour.
Ring of Animal Friendship

When held to the ear, very faint chittering, growling and yelping noises can be heard coming from this yellow-coloured ring.

Powers: On command (EMEKILUOY), this ring affects an animal as if the wearer had cast animal friendship. The ring wearer can befriend 12 HD worth of animals (see the spell description). If animal friendship is already on the character's spell list, this ring allows the character to befriend additional animals.

Campaign lore: Damalanthas retrieved this item from Camanthalar's tower early in 2705:7. It has been examined by the University staff and is currently stored at Griffon Keep

Ring of Feather Falling
This small blue-coloured ring has chicken's footprints embossed all around its inside surface.

Powers: This ring activates a normal feather fall spell whenever the wearer falls five feet or more. The ring also has the unusual (and sometimes useful) side effect of conjuring up a chicken each time the feather-falling effect is activated.

Campaign lore: Damalanthas obtained this ring in mid-2695 by swapping it for a rod of terror and 1000 gp with someone in the Pirsian College of Wizardry. In return for his help in blackmailing Commander Tolmaq with the plague sample in 2694:9, Damalanthas gave this ring to Artak. Someone somewhere is getting mightily annoyed about all his (or her or its) vanishing chickens.

Ring of Jumping
The inside of this rainbow-striped little ring has the phrase "look before you leap" inscribed in Ivrean lettering.

Powers: This ring allows the wearer to leap about as if a jump spell had been cast upon him, adding a +30 bonus to all Jump checks and eliminating his usual maximum distance. The ring is limited to four uses per day.

Campaign lore: This was part of the beholder Voktarn's horde, recovered in 2694:9. Joranth left this ring to Euvgeni when he died in 2705:3.

Ring of Mental Fortitude
This is a plain ring, but of fine workmanship. It is made of blue-tinted silver metal.

Powers: Not requiring an activation word, the ring functions as soon as it is worn. The wearer of the ring is completely immune to detect thoughts, discern lies and any attempt to magically discern his alignment. Additionally, the grants a bonus of +4 to any saves made against psionic powers.

Campaign lore: Damalnthas plundered this ring from the body of the priestess of Liliyos in the third quarter of 2694. In 2705:3, just prior to entering the Ruined City, agreed to swap this ring for Souriin's Ring of Mind Shielding. A few days later, Damalanthas stole it back from Souriin. Souriin has since recovered it from the bard.

Ring of Mind Shielding
The ring is of very fine workmanship, with several small icons of winged humanoids etched on the outer surface. It is wrought from gold.

Powers: The activation word for this ring is KCOLBDNIM, but since the ring stays active until the word is spoken a second time the word is seldom needed. The wearer of the ring is completely immune to detect thoughts, discern lies and any attempt to magically discern his alignment. Unfortunately, this ring offers no protection against psionic powers.

Campaign lore: This ring once belonged to the evil witch Estendenta. When Euvgeni beheaded her in 2693:4, Souriin took the ring. In 2705:3, just prior to entering the Ruined City, Damalanthas agreed to swap his Ring of Mental Fortitude for this ring. A few days later, however Damus stole the Ring of Mental Fortitude back from Souriin and replaced it with this ring. Souriin has since recovered the Ring of Mental Fortitude and returned this ring to the bard.

Ring of Shooting Stars
This smooth silver ring has the constellation known as Trada's Lights etched into the inner surface.

Powers: This ring has two modes of operation — at night and underground — both of which work only in relative darkness. During night hours, under the open sky, the shooting stars ring will perform the following functions:

  • Dancing lights (once per hour)
  • Light (twice per night)
  • Ball lightning, as described below (once per night)
  • Shooting stars, as described below (three per week)
The first special function, ball lightning, releases one to four balls of lightning (wearer's choice). These glowing globes resemble dancing lights, and the ring wearer controls them as he would control dancing lights. The spheres have a 120-foot range and a four round duration. They can be moved at 120 feet per round. Each sphere is about 3 feet in diameter, and any creature it touches or approaches within 5 feet dissipates its charge, taking electricity damage in the process according to the number of balls created:
  • 4 lightning balls: 1d6 points of damage each
  • 3 lightning balls: 2d6 points of damage each
  • 2 lightning balls: 3d6 points of damage each
  • 1 lightning ball: 4d6 points of damage
Once the ball lightning function is activated, the balls can be released at any time before the sun rises. (Multipl balls can be released in the same round.)

The second special function, shooting stars, produces glowing protectiles with fiery trails, much like a meteor swarm. Three shooting stars can be released from the ring each week, simultaneously or one at a time. They impact for 12 points of damage and spread (as a fireball) in a 5-foot diameter sphere for 24 points of fire damage.

Any creature struck by a shooting star takes full damage from impact plus full damage from the spread unless a Reflex save (DC 13) is made. Creatures not struck but within the spread ignore the impact damage and take only half damage from the fire spread on a successful Reflex save (DC 13). Range is 70 feet, at the end of which the shooting star explodes, unless it strikes an object or creature before that. A shooting star always follow a straight line path, and any  A creature in the path must make a save or be hit by the missile.

Indoors at night, or underground, the ring of shooting stars has the following properties:

  • Faerie fire (twice per day)
  • Spark shower, as described below (once per day)
The spark shower is a flying cloud of sizzling purple sparks, which fan out from the ring for a distance of 20 feet in an arc 10 feet. Creatures within this area take 2d8 points of damage each if not wearing metal armor or carrying a metal weapon. Those wearing metal armor and/or carrying a metal weapon take 4d8 points of damage.

Campaign lore: This ring was recovered from the buried desert city in 2705:9. Damalanthas now has it.

Ring of the Twelve Villages
This small golden-coloured ring has no distinguishing features.

Powers: Armour bonus +2, Fortitude save bonus +2; these bonuses do not stack with any bonuses from magical armour.

Campaign lore: Euvgeni usually wears this ring.

Ring of Wraithform
This ring is made of a thin band of white material.

Powers: The ring allows its wearer to become insubstantial (as per the gaseous form spell) three times each day. The duration of each use is 3d10 rounds.

Campaign lore: Jess Farstrider discovered this ring before she met Damalanthas. She has often used it to escape brushes with death. Most recently, she used it to evade damage from Dagaronzie’s breath, making her one of the few people who has experienced the full brunt of Dagaronzie’s fury without harm.
