The God
Brador, with the portfolio of trade
and money, is one of the most powerful of the intermediate powers. He usually
takes the form of a tall, heavy-set man. He is often depicted wearing floor-length
red and white-trimmed robes and a wide-brimmed red hat. Brador is reputed
to be terse and somewhat blunt, but also honest and a good listener. Many
of his followers share these characteristics.
A decade ago (in 2694) Brador was
tricked by Lillyos (Goddess of Mischief and Trickery) into trapping several
members of the Wizards’ Circle. Brador bears Lillyos a deep grudge for
her actions, particularly since it has earned him the enmity of Trada,
a god not known for her forgiving attitude.
The Faith
For the last three hundred years,
the faith has been lead by the Brotherhood of Brador. The god of trade
had a strong following even before the fracturing of Ivrea, but since that
time it has become a powerful force in the east, and more recently, in
the south. Priests of the faith are granted spells for the expressed purpose
of furthering their personal wealth. The price for this gift is simple
– half of all gains must be given to the Brotherhood for the further development
of the faith.
The Brotherhood tends to flourish
in prosperous areas and spreads quickly when new areas are being developed.
The recent surge in trade between Sunhaven and the Great Desert region
has helped foster the growth of the brotherhood in the south. Although
their status in Pirs diminished during Wanwier’s reign of oppression, the
Brotherhood is still the second largest trading bloc in the city. It is
not known why the Brotherhood did not move more actively against Wanwier
during his four years of tyranny.
The Clergy
Because they are meant to use their
powers for personal gain, priests of Brador often seem selfish and blunt
(much like Brador himself). However, they are honest people and make very
loyal friends. If a person appears to be obviously wealthy or powerful,
he or she is likely to be better received by Brador’s priests – Brador
is known as the Deal-Maker, after all.
Most members of the Brotherhood carry
spiked hartok
knives and all priests are familiar with the Brotherhood’s
secret language – the “Tongue of the Brotherhood”. In order to demonstrate
that Brador’s gifts are being used for personal gain priests of Brador
must use the best quality ingredients for all spells.

The eastern coastal city of Pirs
is the headquarters for the Brotherhood of Brador and almost half of the
residents pay tribute to Brador. Both the faith and the Brotherhood play
a large role in the lives of the citizens, and there has been a surge of
support since Wanwier’s removal from power. The Brotherhood is the second
largest trading bloc in Pirs, after the Merchants’ Fold.
The leader of the Brotherhood is
technically a High Priest but is referred to as “His Eminence”. He is assisted
in the running of the Brotherhood by several Deputy High Priests and a
fairly large clergy. Recently, the Temple of Brador in Pirs was very badly
damaged by beholders and the Lords of Rotan. The Brotherhood also maintains
a shrine at the village End in the Pirsian mountains.
In recent months, Brador has been
enjoying an increasingly strong popular following in Béray and amongst
the desert traders. Security reports from the Rotan Palace also report
that an underground cell of the Brotherhood is active in Sunhaven.
The Players
-
His Eminence
Sirrian Jandell: The highest-ranking member of the Brotherhood of Brador.
He is a well-built, bearded man who doesn’t take nonsense from anyone.
He was recently badly wounded and he is recovering in Rotan. Unusually
for members of the Brotherhood, Jandell has Healing as one of his domains.
It is said that he gained this ability as part of a “trade” with Wiobra,
God of Death.
-
Deputy High Priest
Thwarte: The second highest-ranking member of the Brotherhood. He is running
the Brotherhood from Pirs while His Eminence recuperates in Rotan. Thwarte
is a fairly nervous and jumpy man, often looking over his shoulder.
-
Guntar
de Merrin: Head Priest of the Brotherhood in Béray. Guntar is the
second cousin of Marques de Merrin, the Diplomatic Envoy of Queen Allys.
This relationship has enabled Guntar to expand the Béray arm of
the Brotherhood very rapidly. Despite his reputation as a ruthless trader
and negotiator, Guntar has a soft spot for downtrodden creatures and people.
-
Manni Lebrow:
A priest of Brador located in Sunhaven. Manni has a small band of faithful
members of the Brotherhood operating secretly in the city of the Sunfolk.
To protect this group, Manni has an alternate identity as Morik the Trade.
As Morik, Manni has been a key contact point for Baron Vuntar’s operations
in Sunhaven.
